Coeur d'Alene

Lakeside living at the heart of North Idaho, where a walkable downtown meets 25 miles of Lake Coeur d'Alene.

Coeur d'Alene sits on the north shore of Lake Coeur d'Alene, a 25-mile lake with more than 100 miles of shoreline, and serves as the hub of North Idaho. It's the largest city in the region, home to roughly 57,000 residents and growing steadily as more people relocate to the area. Downtown is walkable and active year-round, with the public beach, City Park, Tubbs Hill, and the resort all within reach of the water.

The city is served by the Coeur d'Alene School District and is home to North Idaho College. Kootenai Health, the region's primary medical center, is based here. Interstate 90 runs through town, connecting Coeur d'Alene to Post Falls, the Washington line, and Spokane and Spokane International Airport about 35 minutes west.

Life here centers on the lake and the outdoors. Summer means boating, paddleboarding, kayaking, and fishing, plus the beach and the trails up Tubbs Hill right at the edge of downtown. Silverwood Theme Park is a short drive north, and the ski resorts of North Idaho and eastern Washington are within reach. The North Idaho Centennial Trail runs through town along the water.

The community shows up for its events. Car d'Lane brings a classic-car cruise and show to downtown every Father's Day weekend. The Fourth of July draws visitors from across the region for a downtown parade and a fireworks show launched from a barge out on the lake. The holidays are their own spectacle: the Coeur d'Alene Resort puts on one of the largest holiday light shows in the country, with a lake cruise out to see the lights. It's the kind of place that goes all in on the seasons.

Coeur d'Alene fits buyers who want lake access, a real downtown, and the full range of North Idaho recreation, from a walkable in-town cottage to a place closer to the water.
